For the Frosting:
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 10 minutes, then remove cakes from pans and let cool completely on wire racks.
- To make the frosting: Beat butter until creamy. Add cocoa, then alternate adding powdered sugar and milk, beating until smooth. Stir in vanilla.
